Heritage Week on the Hill of Slane

There will be tours of the Hill of Slane offered during Heritage Week covering the history of the site and the visible archaeological monuments. There will also be information on the results of the recent archaeological survey work conducted on the hill. Tours will take about an hour, maybe more depending on the level of interest! Please dress for the weather, this is an open site. Also, please wear appropriate footwear.

The dates and times of the tours are as follows:

Saturday 18th August – meet in Hill of Slane car park at 3pm.

Saturday 25th August – meet in Hill of Slane car park at 3pm.

Sunday 26th August – meet in Hill of Slane car park at 3pm.


There are a number of other Heritage Week events taking place in the Slane area:

Photographic exhibition. Every day 10am to 6pm. Venue in village centre to be announced, check on website/in the Hub. FREE

Slane Heritage Village Walk.  Tuesday 21st August. Meet at the Hub at 7.15pm. Finish time: 9.30pm. Details from the Hub. FREE

Ladywell Fete.  Sunday 19th August, Slane Castle. 2pm to 7pm. Admission €5 per car. Visit the Ladywell and take part in the many activities organised for the day. Details from the Hub. Visit www.ladywellfete.com for more.

 John Cassidy walk (Slane History and Archaeology Society). Wednesday 22nd August. 7pm to 9pm. From St. Erc’s Cemetery Littlewood. Walk in remembrance of Slane sculptor/artist John Cassidy (1860-1939). FREE

 Archaeology Fun workshops at Brú na Bóinne centre.  Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd August. Four 1.5 hour workshops at 9.30am, 11.15am, 1.30pm and 3.15pm. Hands on learning about archaeology and history through fun and games for 7-12 year olds. Kids enjoy a series of four puzzles and games to learn about their local archaeology and history.
